Driving Change in Business
“That clock is off. I wish someone would change it.”
How often have you heard or said something like that? In your professional environment you may hear it almost daily. What holds us back from stepping up and changing the proverbial clock? Most of the time it is fear – fear of the unknown, fear of ridicule, fear of negativity. My advice is to get over it.
Being on the frontier of change every day sometimes feels like you’re running the gauntlet. And that gauntlet is terrifying. But when has mediocre ever made history? That’s where change agents come in. They’re intent on challenging the status quo and they never settle for too long. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not preaching to change for change’s sake! Every move should be made with calculated intent. And when it comes to change, adopt the mentality that “no one is going to die” and try. Push like crazy and be persistent. I don’t believe in passing the buck. Accept responsibility for your actions and learn to handle what comes after every success and failure. Seldom is a failure a total failure. What’s the worst that’s going to happen? You make a mistake? You lose a client or some money? Maybe. Most likely, the worst you’ll get is a paper cut – literally and figuratively.
Honestly, what’s so hard about changing a clock? Not a thing. Changing a business? Now that takes courage. Have the courage to be the change agent needed in your business.
